Common questions
- Is the timber kiln dried?
Depends on the listing — ask "kiln dried or air dried, and when was it milled?" Reclaimed boards are usually bone dry; fresh-cut slabs are green and need drying — our timber buying guide covers how to check.
- Rough sawn or dressed (DAR)?
Both turn up; rough sawn’s cheaper if you can dress it, DAR’s ready to use — the listing says which.
- Worth it over new?
Surplus new runs 30–50% under retail and reclaimed old-growth beats anything new — check moisture and metal first.
